Much like the recent storm swept through the north-west the prior day, the home side blew Manchester United aside at the their home ground. It was a statement 3-0 triumph for the City coach's side due to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Hemp. It was a performance that truly announced their championship potential as they strengthened their place at the top of the table.

Successive Setbacks for Manchester United

This outcome represented back-to-back WSL losses for the United manager's side for the maiden instance since spring 2024, putting them a sizable gap off the table toppers with their trophy ambitions hanging by a thread.

Manchester United's ability to manage domestic and continental football with a small roster has been a widely debated subject since they secured entry to the European competition. The home side, meanwhile, could have extended their cushion when a delightful Miedema through ball sent Shaw away only for her to miss the chance but it was insignificant to the winning team. Having failed to beat any team who finished above them in the prior term, Jeglertz’s side now have wins against Arsenal and Manchester United to place them in a strong standing after the opening fixtures.
