Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in power within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear mismatched, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the party knows exactly where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer knows the region and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the powerful family could assist the group reach areas they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The healer defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them few options but to head to the remote area in quest for Casimir.
Future Episodes
From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Strategists parties.
Fans can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
