He has committed acts countless times more severe – the present calculation of casualties due to his slashing to international aid stands at 600,000 and rising, and presently a study forecast his petroleum strategies would result in fatalities an additional 1.3 million. Yet nothing as characteristic. No other president would have risked – truly, no previous leader would have contemplated – unilaterally destroying major areas of the executive mansion to build a royal-themed celebration hall, with the direct cooperation of some of the richest Americans, the majority of whom maintain dealings with federal agencies.

That encompasses people such as ourselves – among senior generations almost a majority – who were brought up as mainline Protestant Christians.
We have witnessed throughout the years while conservative evangelical congregations transformed the Christ we grew up with into exactly the opposite of who we understood him to be. At its most basic, they transformed an image of love into a figure of hostility who blesses specifically the brutality that he criticized in the Gospel; this change developed at a slower pace, across decades as opposed to months, but it is nonetheless disturbing via comparable methods, a disorienting gut punch for many of us.
A Toxic Christianity Takes Hold

The obvious and direct truth that the Savior in biblical accounts calls for a type of radical love focused on the needy has perpetually caused Christian religion somewhat of a controversial faith: appealing to the masses, but due to its natural unconventionality demanding to be restrained. During the 1950s it was contained by dilution – Protestant Christianity was so dominant that it basically sanctified existing conditions.
A Struggle for the Highest Among Us
