The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in employing replay systems.
Replay technology will be launched at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.
Athletes are granted the right to challenge particular calls from the official, following the practice currently in operation at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.
This technology will be operational on the main stadium and Court One throughout the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles matches.
This step comes just a season following the AELTC introduced ELC, which terminated the longstanding tradition of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Competitors will not be permitted to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but they can request the official to review specific decisions, including:
- If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- If a shot touched an opponent's racquet or body during play.
- Potential hindrance end of a point.
Notably, there is no limit on the amount of challenges a player can initiate.
Case in Point
A recent incident took place in Indian Wells last week, where a top player used the review system against Jack Draper.
Draper admitted it was a difficult call for the umpire, but believed his rival had "played the rules quite well."
The umpire watched a video and determined the player was responsible for hindrance, granting the rally to Medvedev.
Growing Trend
This technology aren't new for Grand Slams. It was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews in place at every one of its tournaments.
Further Updates
A further change at The Championships 2025 will be the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This addresses situations where spectators have sometimes been unsure whether a shot was out or in.
Finally, with exactly a century of days to go until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have further announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
